Before a new degree can become operational, the proposed curriculum must undergo an assessment process (verification) by the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), which issues a binding assessment for the Council of Universities (CU), the body responsible for accrediting degrees after prior authorisation of their implementation by the Government of Catalonia. If the result is affirmative, the degree is recorded in the Spanish Ministry of Education's Registry of Universities, Centres and Degrees (RUCT) and can then be taught.
The aim of this process is to ensure that new courses are structured in accordance with European Higher Education Area (EHEA) requirements, the degree framework, and that there is consistency between the content and objectives in accordance with the design of the different disciplines.
